5 Tips to Make Laundry Day Easier

There’s nothing more tedious than sifting through piles of dirty clothes to separate them into darks, lights, delicates, pastels, blah, blah, blah!

Here are a few helpful hints and tips to organise yours and your family clothes to make sure you don’t lose it on laundry day…

Tip 1: Let them do the hard work

It’s far easier to do clothes washing if the sorting is done for you and this is an easy fix. All you need are multiple boxes, hampers, clothes bins, wash bags… whatever you use so that when the family come to throw the clothes in the wash, they simply add them in the right place. Ikea do great fabric, fold down storage boxes that are cheap and come in a range of colours so that you can easily separate clothes according to colour.

Tip 2: Do different types on different days

Most people don’t want to be doing laundry every day but it’s also too much to do in one day, so splitting your laundry up by types and dedicating a day to it makes it a lot more manageable. You could do bedding and towels on a Friday, darks on a Monday and whites and colours on Wednesday. This way you can be drying and folding one load when you put a new load in.

Tip 3: Avoid the dreaded tissue!

Don’t just throw the load in the washer, it’s always good practice to check pockets, not only for the dreaded tissue but for coins or other items that may damage the washing machine. It takes about a minute but can save a lot of pain later… any you made some time up by not having to separate 🙂

Tip 4: Use your drier like a pro

Always check your lint tray before every use, it’s a 10 second job which not only makes the drier perform better but will stop it catching on fire. For more tips on fire safety with your drier you can read this article.

Don’t cram a load full, not only does this mean it will take an age to dry but it will be creased and take longer to iron. Do smaller loads and get them out to fold while still warm to reduce the amount of ironing needed.

Tip 5: Make laundry quick!

If you split your laundry up over the week it actually doesn’t take long to do the different stages so you can bosh it out while your pasta is boiling or while the tea is brewing, this way it seems less of a chore.
